The crime, which had great global repercussions, occurred on the night of March 1, in the Dumka district, in the state of Jharkhandna, in northeast India. The couple, Vicente Barbera and Fernanda Santos, who were traveling through Asia on a motorcycle, were attacked by criminals.
The superintendent of the Indian National Police, Pitamber Singh Kherwar, confirmed in a press conference that all individuals involved in the crime against the couple had been arrested. He also said that the eight men will be brought to trial.
Security authorities in the Asian country did not reveal the identity and nationality of those arrested.
Every year, Indian women and some tourists are cowardly abused with records by all sectors of that nation. The newspaper "Times of India" reported that another woman, a tourist, was raped less than 24 hours in the same region where a group of men attacked the Brazilian woman.
Although the country has the death penalty for this type of crime, it does not seem to have any effect or stop abuses. According to Indian government records, around 32 people were raped in the year 2022.
